Dr. Gabriel Suchodolski, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Georgetown’s Earth Commons Institute, will present his talk, “Governing Amazonian Frontiers: Predation, Sheltered States, and When Conservation Can Work,” as part of the ECo Talks series produced by the Earth Commons.

This talk shows how the persistence and resurgence of deforestation stem from the local political economy of resource frontiers—where predatory entrepreneurs build the power that eventually reshapes policy from below, but where conditions for effective state intervention can also emerge.
